Joel Makower
Joel has been a well-respected writer and strategist on corporate sustainability practices and clean technology for nearly 20 years, and he has helped a wide range of companies align environmental goals with business objectives. He is Co-founder and Principal of Clean Edge, a research and publishing firm focusing on clean-tech markets, Founder and Executive Editor of GreenBiz.com and ClimateBiz.com, and a Senior Advisor at GreenOrder, a sustainability strategy firm. He also serves as a Batten Fellow at the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. A former nationally syndicated columnist, he is author of fifteen books, including Beyond the Bottom Line: Putting Social Responsibility to Work for Your Business and the World, and The E-Factor: The Bottom-Line Approach to Environmentally Responsible Business. Joel has consulted to a variety of companies on sustainability and CleanTech strategies, including General Electric, General Motors, Hewlett Packard, and Nike, and serves in a board or advisory capacity for numerous for-profit and nonprofit organizations. The Associated Press has called him “The guru of green business practices.” Joel holds a degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley.
