Richard A. Miller, M.D.
Richard A. Miller received his M.D. degree, summa cum laude, from the State University of New York in 1975. Dr. Miller trained in internal medicine and medical oncology at Stanford University Medical Center and is Board Certified in both specialties. Dr. Miller continued his career at Stanford as a research scientist in cancer biology and immunology where he pioneered the use of monoclonal antibodies for the treatment of lymphomas. In 1985, he co-founded IDEC Pharmaceuticals, becoming a Director and its Vice President of Research and Clinical. In 1991, Dr. Miller founded Pharmacyclics, Inc., becoming a Director and its President and CEO. At Pharmacyclics, Dr. Miller has pioneered the research and development of a novel class of pharmaceuticals to treat cancer. These drugs selectively target cancer and destroy cancer cells by a unique mechanism of action.
Dr. Miller has continued his affiliation with Stanford and is currently a Clinical Professor of Medicine in Oncology, where he has ongoing teaching and patient care responsibilities. Dr. Miller is the author of over 100 scientific publications and numerous issued patents and is a frequently invited speaker at various scientific and business conferences.
